The first meeting of the Budget Committee was conducted on Monday, 9th October 2023, by The Chair of Domestic Affairs, Representative Perry (Joaquin Eiris). During the meeting, there was a significant display of inter-party friction.
Representative Perry was very forward in questioning why Representative Scalise (Ryan Sadaghiani) was “collaborating so much with the press.” Scalise responded, “It is always good to collaborate with the press.” Why would Representative Perry not want to? What does he not want the people of America to know about what is taking place and where their funds are being allocated to in the Budget Committee?
To continue the meeting, Representative Jayapal (Arsh Goyal) must bring matters into his own hands by motioning to “bang the gavel less loud.”
Representative Porter (Antoinette Damico) seemed not to be paying attention when she repeated an amended amendment and continually interrupted Representative Perry whenever he tried to end the rule debate. Eventually, he gets so frustrated, He sighs, “Oh fuck! Nobody can interrupt the chairman!”
As the session ended, I asked Representative Perry how he thought today went. He responded, “Considering we got the rules passed and my most important rules that I wanted, it was good.” I continued with, “You sounded a little annoyed.” He replied, “ Uhh… Yea, because we changed the reading time, and now we will have to read a shit ton of things in 2 days!”
Speaking of tension, Matt Gaetz (Bashir Hassan) had dug himself into a deep hole with his tweets.
Kevin McCarthy (Victoria Euyoque) would like to address his replies: "Gaetz is jealous that I had a position of power when he didn't, and guess who is on the rules committee and who is NOT.”
And to top it all off, the committee has members not even bothering to show up! Where was Representative Crenshaw (James Li.) The American people deserve 100% commitment and attentiveness.
